Amazing Amsterdam has always had strong ties to the water. Spread out over 70 islands, this cosmopolitan city and capital of the Netherlands boasts 60 miles of canals and 1,000 bridges. As early as the 13th century, tiny ships sailed from this port into the challenging Zuider Sea.
Amsterdam was the birthplace of the Hanseatic League and gained renown in the 15th century when it became a major trading center, steadily assuming commercial leadership and thus controlling the country's finances. This trend remains to this day. Both future-oriented and steeped in history, Amsterdam is most famous for its narrow, gabled houses lining the canals.
After a short transfer by coach to the city center, you will begin a brief panoramic city tour. Watch for the major historic landmarks and buildings, including the Jewish Quarter, a windmill, the Tropenmuseum and Java Island.
Boarding a glass-topped canal boat, enjoy a one-hour cruise through Amsterdam's canals.
Finally, your coach will take you to Schiphol Airport in time for your flight.
Notes: There may be up to five steps to board the canal boat. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring sunscreen. This tour is available only to guests whose cruise ends in Amsterdam, with flights departing after 3pm. If you have already purchased an airport transfer with your cruise booking, a refund for the transfer will be processed on board the ship, as this excursion automatically includes a transfer. Tour does not operate on holidays.
