A 90-minute deluxe motorcoach transfer brings you to Rome's center. Here, you'll board the open-top, double-decker Hop-On, Hop-Off Red Line and tour the Eternal City.
Enjoy sightseeing, local attractions, shopping, museums, art galleries, restaurants and much more, as this tour allows you to experience the ancient history and beauty of Rome at your own pace and according to your own interests.
Explore cobblestone streets and the city's many piazzas, or visit Rome's iconic landmarks. Along the route are the Colosseum, St Peter's Basilica, the Vatican, Castle Saint Angelo, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and much more. See it, selfie it and rejoin the bus which calls at each stop every 15 to 20 minutes. The bus provides fantastic views, with an entertaining audio narration in 5 languages (English, Italian, French, German, Spanish,). Simply hop off at any of the designated stops or remain on board to relax and see it all.
At the end of the day, you'll transfer back to the ship at Civitavecchia.
Notes:
The coach that transfers you to Rome will drop you at Circus Maximus -- stop 4 of the Hop-On, Hop-Off line (subject to change if traffic or event conditions dictate). You'll receive your hop-on, hop-off ticket already on the transfer coach. A clean headset is issued to you at the beginning of your tour, and you will keep it for the day. The full loop on the Red Line, without getting off the bus, is approximately one hour and 45 minutes. The tour is open to the public and the hop-on, hop-off bus is not exclusive to Holland America Line guests; you are merely purchasing a ticket for the bus service and are subject to traffic delays and possible wait times associated with the service. Due to the nature of this tour, there will be no refunds. Wear comfortable walking shoes. It is your responsibility to meet the transfer coach at the appointed time at the end of the tour. Entrance fees to attractions along the route are not included. Modest attire is required for visiting churches or cathedrals; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts and capri-length pants are not allowed. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
