Begin your day with a drive from the idyllic village of Flåm at the head of the Aurlandsfjord -- a branch of the mighty Sognefjord. By means of two long tunnels, the longest more than 6 miles, you will soon reach Gudvangen on the other side of the mountains.
Continue up the Nærøy Valley following the well-known salmon river. On both sides, waterfalls plunge down the cliff sides. You will soon arrive at the shores of the beautiful Oppheim Lake and on through woodland and fertile areas to the spectacular Tvinde Waterfall that cascades down the steep cliffside. Here, pause for a photo.
Return to Gudvangen via Norway's steepest road, constructed in 1849. The serpentine Stalheim Road features 13 hairpin bends. You will visit Njardarheimr Viking Community, where people have chosen to dedicate their lifestyle to the Viking Era so that life here authentically replicates the way the Norse lived more than a thousand years ago. Let these modern Vikings impress you with their skills and know-how in handicrafts and history, and try a few techniques yourself.
Reboard the coach and return to Flåm and the ship.
