Sky-high views of the city are your reward after a fun funicular ride awarded the 2021 Project of the Year by Elevator World Magazine.
Take a short drive up to Watchman's Hill (Cerro del Vigia) while viewing Mazatlán's lighthouse in the distance.
From the main entrance to Mazatlán's 1873 Observatory, take a funicular up to 265 feet above sea level. Originally a military outpost and later a meteorological and seismological observatory, today, the observatory is home to historical and cultural attractions. Your guide will lead you on a tour, beginning with the xeriscape garden with more than 30 species of cacti and agaves.
The museum in the main building offers a look at a 19th-century way of life, while the El Nido Bird Sanctuary boasts 70 bird species in natural habitats.
Finally, uncover the secrets of tequila with a lesson in the mezcal distillation process and enjoy a glass of local beer or a soft drink while admiring 360° views from the Sky Bar.
Notes:
Terrain includes steps over uneven, gravel pathways and inclines. This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
