Your tour begins as you board a high-speed catamaran for a scenic cruise through North America's deepest fjord. Watch for whales, seals, and spectacular waterfalls as you cruise Lynn Canal to the picturesque village of Haines.
Board a motorcoach for a beautiful 40-minute drive up the National Scenic Byway. You'll see Haines and historic Fort Seward on this narrated drive. Watch for moose and swans in the marshlands as you head up the Chilkat River Valley.
At the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, experienced guides await to begin your rafting adventure (not white water). You'll float silently down the river aboard an 18-foot inflatable raft -- the best way to observe the eagles drawn to feed on the plentiful salmon. Bears and wolves are also frequent guests at the feast. Rich in wildlife, the preserve is also a place of incredible beauty with towering mountains, hanging glaciers and lush forests.
After your float, enjoy a riverside picnic.
Your tour concludes with a return cruise aboard the catamaran back to Skagway. With Haines behind you, you'll take with you a wealth of unforgettable memories.
Notes:
Maximum weight is 350 lbs. Minimum age is 7 years. Guests who are pregnant past 20 weeks' gestation are not allowed to participate. Participants must be in good health and able to walk over loose gravel and dry river delta to board the rafts. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Life jackets, rubber boots and a poncho are supplied for the rafting portion of the tour. Dress comfortably in layers and bring an extra pair of socks. This is a float trip with no white water. Lunch may be served before or after the float, depending on the time of the day. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
