Head to the Fukagawa district of Tokyo, east of the Sumida River. This part of Japan's immense capital is called the shitamachi (Old Town).
You'll stop at the Fukagawa Edo Museum, nestled in a narrow, tree-lined street among numerous temples and shrines. The museum opened in 1986. Its claim to fame is a display of wonderful Edo-period artifacts, including everyday items and plants, and a reconstruction of Fukagawa Saga town.
Continue to the Sensoji Temple. Legend has it that, in AD 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon out of the Sumida River; then, they built a temple to enshrine the statue of the goddess. You'll enter through the Nitenmon or Kaminarimon Gate, bedecked with a huge red paper lantern, to view the shrine.
Enjoy some free time to stroll down Nakamise-dori (the Street of Inside Shops). This is an alley lined with traditional vendor stalls selling snacks, souvenirs and handicrafts.
From the coach, watch for famous landmarks such as the Ginza district and the Tokyo Tower as you return to the ship.

This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Yokohama. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants cannot stay on the bus at Asakusa (Sensoji Temple).
