A boat ride takes you across Kotor Bay to Gospa od Skrpjela Baroque church, set on a small island. According to legend, the islet was made over the centuries by local seamen, who kept an ancient oath: Upon returning from each successful voyage, they laid a rock in the bay. Over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea. Visit the church to see 68 magnificent paintings by Tripo Kokolja -- a famous 17th-century artist from Perast. His most famous work, at an impressive 10 yards long, is The Death of the Virgin. Your guide will tell you about the island's history, the church, and the art you'll see.
Next, you'll head to Perast -- a sleepy Baroque town with beautiful buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. This small, peaceful town has a toehold along the water's edge, with a steep hill rising behind it. Perast's sacred monuments include the Church of St Nicholas, built between the 15th and 17th centuries. Enjoy a cocktail at one of the town's delightful seaside cafés.
After your midday aperitif, rejoin your boat for a scenic ride to Stari Mlini restaurant. Lunch at Stari Mlini -- one of Montenegro's finest restaurants -- offers you a taste of the Adriatic's spectacular seafood. The property dates to the 1700s and was originally a family-operated flour mill. Stari Mlini, meaning Old Mill, has been transformed into a warm and rustic restaurant with plenty of authentic charm. It is set within the walls and grounds of the original mill, making for a truly evocative dining experience. The emphasis here is on top-quality, local ingredients, from freshly caught fish to seasonal produce, all prepared with 300-year-old cooking techniques. You'll enjoy a casual lunch bursting with unmistakably Mediterranean and undeniably delicious flavors before returning to Kotor to board the ship.
